Modern branchline

As late as 1999 6-axle GMD1s still roamed the Prairies. Since then much of the trackage has been ripped up, 6-axle trucks exchanged for B-Bs and units limited to yard service
Yeah right! Two GMD1us of 1959 vintage lead a newer GMD offering, 1999 SD75I. Theres a 40-year technological gap in this picture!
GMD1us dont normally run here unless theyre being transferred between terminals. Usually when the GP38-2/GP38-2W roadswitcher pool dries up, road power is used. Ive seen GP40-2LWs & SD38-2s added to the mix, but tramp power is very odd the units dont even have ditch lights! At least theyre smoky and come with a Canadian flag.

The train is currently on the mainline, but will be turning N/B shortly onto the Cargill Canola plant spur (3.2 miles).
Note the signal under construction.

I chased GMD1's on branch lines that all but gone!

Don't feel too bad for the crew Cal, they ran back with the SD75I leading.

No no, its just a 3.2 mile spur outside of Saskatoon. Melfort is served out of Humboldt, likely by two or even 1 half-dead GP38-2W.

Yeah, I believe I've seen one GP38 sitting in Melfort, they used to use SD40s to drive the train from Hudson Bay to prince Albert through Melfort.
