Hard to believe...

but this IS a "vintage photo", according to the guidelines. Amtrak tr. 192 is eastbound past one of several semaphores still in service in the Groton, CT. area on Feb. 12, 1982. The "blades" would last another 4 years before being replaced and, yes, the ubiquitous Amtrak F40's are just a memory, too.
Looks like it has its trusty ghetto grills. Does anyone know when most locos lost them?
 
In response to "rgcx"'s query, it appears, from perusing my photos of the F40's, that the units which had "ghetto grates" lost them during the 1988-1989 period.
