    The Victor and the Vanquished

    In December 1997, a BNSF BARPAS is northbound at Stronghold, California. At the time, the signals protecting the diamond with UP's Modoc Line were the last active semaphores on a Class I mainline in California. Replacements for the blades were installed and waiting to be cut in.
