The conductor of the Chicago bound Southwest Chief looks the end of the train to see if the passengers have finished boarding before departing Fullerton on a rainy night in southern California.
Amtak train 589 departs Fullerton for Los Angeles after making it scheduled stop. The brakes were airing when I was setting up for this shot. I like the result.
BNSF 7689 sits on trak 2 in Fullerton between two Amtrak trains. A northbound Pacific Surfliner is departing on track 3 (left), and the Southwest Chief is about to depart on track 1 (right) after sitting in the station for the better part of an hour.
Amtrak train #4, the Southwest Chief, was being held in Fullerton due to a grade crossing incident farther east on the BNSF mains. While the Chief was waiting, a southbound Pacific Surfliner rolled up and stopped. The engineer of the Surfliner stopped briefly to talk with the crew of the Chief.
BNSF 7719, leading a mixed freight, makes a very unusual stop at the Fullerton train station. It is more common for westbounds to stop at Basta on track 2. This train stopped in the station on track 1 making for a unique photo opportunity.
The Chicago bound Southwest Chief pulls into Fullerton as a family watches from the pedestrian bridge. Rail fans wave as the baggage cart, at the right edge, waits for the train to stop on a beautiful September evening.
