Welded Rail

Welded Rail

The head end of this train is not pulling it. The power comes from GTW locos # 4909 & 4634 pushing the 700 feet of welded rail to Imlay City, MI. This photo was taken in Emmet, Mi near Bisco's Bar.
Nice photo, it gives you a good look at just how flexible welded rail really is... Seems like rail is stiff out to about 50 foot long, then it turns into wet noodles and does stuff you wouldn't expect steel to do.

The long strings also make really weird sounds, I've often wished I had a way to record them. Sounds echo back and forth in the rail, and end up sounding like something from Star Wars. :)

I can't wait to hear that when they lay it by the house here!
