Mudslide of 1997

A very low tide has revealed the remains of the mudslide of Jan.17 ,1997. A southbound train with 35 cars was hit by a mudslide that shut down the main line for 13 days and derail with it 3 cars of mail, the cars and mud and debris where push into the Puget Sound it was 25 feet high over the track and another smaller slide came later that night. There is still old second class mail containers and bundles of mail today along side the trucks and new tires, car amps, cans of foam ,Toms toothpaste and mouthwash.as well as big coils of aluminum, these trucks and debris can only be seeen at a below normal tide. Also a mudslide on Mar.went across the track north of here at M.P.-24.
So the USPS just left the mail in the mud. The post office dept. just ain't what it used to be. Interesting pic.

I have hirailed pass that spot many times and I could only imagine what it was like that dreadful day, at least it's got a small artificial reef.
I'm assuming all of those trucks and wheels are too far into Puget Sound for the recovery of those.

Would have given higher rating but balance of car was not visible. The car(s)seem to be upside down.Is that correct? What lake or river were the cars found? I see trucks but no trains. I also was put off by the greenish tinge to wheels. Most new wheels are not green.

That is in the salt water of Puget Sound just south of Edmonds at MP16 on the Scenic sub, majority of the bigger stuff like the car bodies I believe were removed.
