GE Centercab

Grande Man, this locomotive will take a bit of research to find its origin. I mentioned earlier I thought it might be one of the ex-C&NW, later BN demonstrators, but now looking at the frame in your photo, it appears to be a different model. Also, it has a pair of class lights on either side of the headlights, whereas the demonstrators had a single class light. The Second Diesel Spotters Guide Update lists two models by GE in the "1974 Line"; a 85-110 ton model rated at 600 hp, and a 125-144 ton model rated at 1100 hp. The lighter loco had the hood almost to the stairwell, and the heavier loco had a "porch", so this may be the lighter model. The photo in the Update shows two class lights each side on the lighter model. The Update states, "The 110 ton model was ordered by two industry-captive short lines, Wyandotte Southern and Moscow Camden & St. Augustine."

The lighter locomotive pictured in the Update shows the oval cutouts in the frame that are also shown in your photo. If you get anywhere near this loco in the future, try to photograph the builders plate, or write down the info on it. Thanks for the photo.

As of the publication date of the Update (1979), nine USA and 3 Mexican copies of the lighter loco, and 3 USA and 2 Mexican copies of the heavier loco were produced.
