Thread 'The Modern Tramway Journal After WW2 and into the 1960s'

Modern Tramway – January 1951 – The ‘Felthams’ in Leeds I have a few older copies of Modern Tramway which I had not yet read. The first of these is the January 1951 issue, this is a second reflection from that copy of the Journal. As the London network began to close a significant number of trams were sold. Thread 'Where do covered hopper cars filled with grain go to anyway and what happens to them?'

Greetings, I was wondering if somebody could tell what happens to all these long strings of covered hopper cars filled with grain such as wheat? Where are they going to anyway? What happens when they get there? Once empty hoppers get filled with grain at a grain elevator, I haven't a clue what happens next in the ordinary scheme of things... Thank you

I am interested in the logistics of building a railroad from the viewpoint of getting all the materials to the end of the line in the context of the late 19th century. i have found references to rail mounted steam shovels that were used to prepare the sub grade.
