Newbie quesion: what is a "grainger line"?

Railroadforums.com is a free online Railroad Discussion Forum and Railroad Photo Gallery for railroaders, railfans, model railroaders and anyone else who is interested in railroads. A granger line usually referred to minor branches laid to serve farming and grain growing areas. Eastern Washington State was full of them, and I suspect there were a lot of them in the midwest. For the most part, they are long gone.
