Newbie quesion: what is a "grainger line"?

We cover a wide variety of topics, including freight trains, passenger and commuter railroads, rail news and information, tourist railroads, railway museums and railroad history.

A granger line usually referred to minor branches laid to serve farming and grain growing areas. Eastern Washington State was full of them, and I suspect there were a lot of them in the midwest. For the most part, they are long gone.
