At approximately 3pm on Wednesday, 19 Dec 2013 a freak storm hit Cork City and the surrounds with extremely strong winds and rain. A few seconds after the 3pm Cork - Cobh departed platform 2 at Cork Kent, the winds ripped the platform canopy off, with debris landing in the car park and out on the main road. Debris also hit a 2600 class DMU in platform 3, and another unit in the old carriage siding. A loco in one of the engine roads also got it. From other reports, the signal cabin got damaged as well. Thankfully no one was killed.

Why was the Glensk Viaduct abandoned? Is it a walking path now or just a relic? I really like the pic of the 3 guys in front of the 073, it gives you a sense of anticipation Thanks for sharing. Tom Z
Hi Tom,
The Farranfore to Valentia railway line was "dismantled" and abandoned in 1960. There are still a lot of engineering works evident on the line to this day. There are plans to turn some sections into walkways/cycleways.
