  5. Draper duo memories

    Draper duo memories

An increasingly rare sight with the on-going re-painting of older GE\'s (only ones in zebra paint) and the retirement of the SD60F and SD50F fleets.
  6. Vanishing Canadiana

    Vanishing Canadiana

Both engines retired and presumably scrapped in 2007 & 2009 respectively. Same goes for the light aluminium CWB hoppers designed for light branch lines - nearly all of them ripped up now.

Standing only a couple of feet tall this little CPL stands guard controlling all movements on the North Leesburg siding.

  9. Silent Sentinels of Safety

    Silent Sentinels of Safety

People take signals like these on the CPR at Eldon, Alberta for granted until an obsolete model starts to disappear. In the meantime they do their job around the clock in blizzards, scorching summer days 24/7/365.
  10. Wicopee, OR

    Wicopee, OR

A northbound UP manifest drops down the UP's Cascade line and is nicely framed by this SP signal bridge. Dispatcher 68 was nice enough to send us three freights (and Amtrak) down the hill in rapid succession into this beautiful morning light. The rest of the day was a bust, though.
  11. Passing under Rt 66

The classic signal bridge was still guiding trains in 2005. It was removed during BNSF's program to modernize the CTC and to eliminate the need to operate "left-handed" east of Winslow.

  15. 1841 > 1839

    1841 > 1839

The new LED signal is actually brighter, this is not just a photo effect. Somehow old 1841 didnt need a signal box to tell him how to think and lit up all day without a problem

    How many Signal Maintainers...

...does it take to change a crossing signal light bulb? Obviously only 1 as he works above Oregon Avenue in Pasco, WA. June 13, 2008
