Three WC units after four years of railfanning CN's mainline... At least they're different types: SD45u, GP40, now a SD40-2! A WC GP38-2 should be next as they've replaced BCOL's beloved RS18CAT fleet on the coast and come through occasionally.
Don't let the paint fool you - before becoming...
You can always tell a train is the 114. Even if the train is several miles away, and your flying by on the highway. This train is sporting the previously caught CN 8844, via the Sarcee power arrangments.
Happens to the best of us! Now that the CN 8800s are common as wheat out here, I can't say this train is 'special' or 'unusual'. But, the new power was just too cool. It's strange to see them on the 450.
Brand new EMD product, along with a twin, lead 115 into town. "Brand new EMD" doesn't sound right after almost a decade of new GE power and half-dead SD40-2W's on the mainline. If only these engines could make a similar comeback on the CP...
Although it's very said to see old units retired, you must admit the new ones look good!
With CN getting serious about DPU and getting more ES44AC's, they're no longer restricted to the East Coast, starting to show up all over.
Saskatoon's garbage hill is in the background. If you look...
Unlike my incorrect assumption on SD40-2s, here is something you actually don't see in Saskatchewan. The CN 8800 SD70M-2. I've seen two of them. CN exclusivley restricts these units to Nova Scotia trains, so this was a real surprise. CN 8838 leads 5417 on CN 342 at Riverview, February 20, 2008...
I knew a train was coming thanks to radio chatter, but all I could see were the three lights (headlight+2 ditchlights) until it got close enough. Then he kicked up snow on the bridge and visibility went back to zero...
Don't let the looks fool you, with falling snow it was pretty warm...

CN 346 is about to cover me from head to toe. Although hard to see due to 'weather conditions' this is the river bridge: http://tinyurl.com/2mkrdd
Sadly, I was not able to get the 2nd units number, although I think its CN 2584, Dash 9-44CW. CN 8011 SD70M-2 sure makes for a good plow with that...
CN 8002, SD70M-2 and a Dash 9-44CW lead a typical IMS. Unlike with the ES44DC's, I haven't had as much luck catching the SD70M-2's on CN's mainline - this is my only catch so far.
