In 1971 or so, the last Rock Island passenger train came into Des Moines, Iowa. Rushed to the station with a cheap camera and got this shot from a bad vantage point. Only was able to get passenger car Seminole.
No doubt they are still around, but sadly they are not so common around here anymore. A strange fact, as the American lines see Trailers as a more important shipment than Stacks.
CR 2798, a U23-B, leads westbound tonnage up the east slope of Washington hill at Middlefield, MA. on the old B&A in June, 1979. Barely 2 years old at the time, the 2798 is the last U-Boat, or "Universal" series locomotive built by GE for domestic service before introduction of...
The Providence & Worcester acquired the 2798 from ConRail in 1991 and operated it as their 2203 until June, 2002. The P&W swapped the trucks on a number of the 4 axle GE's they acquired, including the 2203, which had it's origional AAR type "B" trucks replaced with the FB-2...
Since acquisition by the Railroad Museum of New England in Feb. 2003, the 2203 has been the workhorse of the museum's Naugatuck Railroad. On June 29, 2004, the 2203 was handling a mid-week work train just north of Frost Bridge Rd. in Watertown, CT. The engineer on that job (me) got to take...
2203 accelerates her train by Seidel's crossing after slowing for RMNE's Chase yard in Waterville, CT. on Dec. 9, 2006. RMNE's Naugatuck Railroad operates Santa/Christmas trains the first three weekends in December.
CN 2452 is the second-last Dash-8 for the CN, the last being 2454. Built most likley in December of 1992, this locomotive is practially the exact same age as myself. Here we see it hulking the 357.
This CN truck has the distinction of being the last piece of CN equipment on the former Fort Garry Industrial Park #2 trackage, since he's the wrecker. Although I've never seen any traffic or cars on the industrial tracks, at its peak (early 90s?) the 1 mile spur off of CN's mainline had 3 stub...

Evidence as the 2 GEVOs heading up its eastbound counterpart. When 115 has 4 units, 2 return on 114, and the other 2 stay in Calgary. Alas, I missed 115 today. Anyway, this site alone is one to behold. CN ES44DCs 2220 and 2234 head up a late 114 on its trip to Toronto. Did I mention that I...
Built in 1968, it was a 52' gondola before CP decided to upgrade it to a woodchip car sometime in its life. In 1999 most of the series was retired, but a couple remained in MOW service. Don't remember where I read this, but apparently its used to transport ties for CP so that they can be sold...
What appears like a combine, one of the three remaining VIA blue cars, brought into Winnipeg for maintenence, these cars are in regular service up in Northern Manitoba on a mixed train.
I know I could of cropped out the fence, but it makes the shot more realistic. Took me a couple times to...

More then 30 years ago CN invented the Canadian Safety cab, which has created such oddballs such as the GP40-2L(W), SD40-2(W) and the GP38-2(W) that don't look even close to their regular versions. Don't forget that draper tapers, namely Dash 8-40CM, SD50F, SD50AF and SD60F have this cab as...
