Northbound train #14 crosses the big trestle at Gaviota state beach, a spot made famous over the years by many photos of SP Daylight trains at this location.
Far from a "good" photo, but an interesting story. My 16-year old son Austin (austinjacox here on RRF) is traveling from one set of grandparent's near Centralia, WA, to his other set near Oakland, CA, on Amtrak's Coast Starlight, by himself. I am spending the weekend at Crescent Lake...
Our annual family vacation found us in St. Augustine, FL. I took a morning to do some railfanning of the Florida East Coast. I found train 226 crossing the San Sebastion River. Nice morning light and a lack of wind produced a nice reflection. Seeing an ex UP SD40-2 UP front was a treat for me...
The nose patch on UP 1386 has fallen off, and the paint on its flanks is faded - just like an SP should be! Without the yellow patches, this lashup would be more reminiscent of SP in the late 80's. Hard to believe it's 2009.
Cotton Belt 9666 leads the Union Pacific "Santa Margarita Turn" near San Ardo, California in February of 2002. Rain clouds are not far off in the distance on this day.
The UP Roseville to San Jose manifest creeps around the curve at Alviso, California in May of 2001. Two ducks fly overhead as this is the bottom of San Francisco Bay.
Amtrak's "Coast Starlight" heads southbound between Soledad and King City, California on the Coast Line in April of 2002. The train has drawn an Amtrak-California F59PHI or "rocketship" as named by the train crews for its styling.
