This summer I got to see derelict AMTRAK Turboliner sets in Schenectady, NY. It took a while to recall where I have photographed a similar scene years earlier derelict British Rail coaches, now owned by VIA Rail, rusting at Bombardiers Thunder Bay plant.

From Wikipedia Originally conceived in 1992 with the opening of the Chunnel two years later, these cars were build in Birmingham, England for the Nightstar overnight Eurostar train project which stopped being economically viable with the advent of cheap airfares. VIA consequently purchased all 139 shells in 2000 for use between Toronto & Halifax. Only 106 cars are utilized by the crown corp., the rest were scrapped in 2008.

You can still see the old shells stored in the Port Arthur bush through Google Streetview: http://tinyurl.com/2cnm9dm
