Until the early 90s unit coal trains were brought to the plant, up to last year they even had a GE 80T for switching. Cut off from the CN main, loop tracks are still there - not much use for them now that the plant is powered by natural gas.

In a couple years this view will be history, with a HWY bridge in the way.
Amazingly, despite temps hovering around -38 (C & F), part of the river remains unfrozen.

I hope they avoid the playground area if this build this thing...
As for the old loop tracks, thoes are used by a railcar maintanance company.

Elijah, the railcar maintenance company has been moved to the CN yards, that's why the Saskpower GE80T is in a museum now. Construction on the bridge will start at the end of this year - they playground area will definitely be effected.

Some good news for Riverview in the meantime though - turns out its part of the Saskatoon yard lead track! Today 106 was switching in the yard - had a long cut, so ran out all the way to Riverview passed Chappelle JCT, before coming back in!

Not quite - the Circle Drive bridge is about the same size actually - i.e. it will be blocking this view sadly. That's a good looking bridge in Edmonton though - I even took photos of it from the car while on the said road bridge, with no train on it I don't think its worth posting though.
