McDonald Tunnel was completed in 1988 consisted of 4 units on the head end , 2 units running remote mid train & 6 units cut in 20 cars ahead of the tail end. The 2.2% grade was 15 miles in length & the trains average speed was about 17 MPH.These trains weighed 12000 tons & required 36000 horse power to negotiate the grade. The new Mt.
