N&W GP-9 #510, 47th St., Chicago, Illinois, October 31, 1965, photo by Chuck Zeiler
I can only speculate about this train, I didn't keep careful records. I was photographing trains around 47th St. in Chicago, and this one passed by. I thought it might be the replacement for the Wabash "Bluebird" (at the time of this photo, the N&W had recently purchased both the Nickel Plate and Wabash), but on close examination, it appears the class lights are lit, indicating an Extra. Also, it could be early in the morning, or late in the evening, depending on the direction of travel, judging by the shadows, I don't recall. Anyway, it's a far cry from the Powhatan Arrow, powered by a J class steam engine with a bullet nose.
