Missouri-Kansas-Texas RS-3m #142, Kansas City, Kansas, April 1980, photo by Chuck Zeiler. It was built in June 1951 (c/n 78892) as a 1600 horsepower steam generator equipped RS-3 #1701. In October 1959 it was re-engined by EMD with a 567C prime mover (EMD order #8552) and given a GP-9 style long hood. Although a 1750 horsepower 567C was installed, the locomotive was rated at 1500 horsepower due to the reuse of General Electric electrical gear. It was renumbered in 1960, and in August 1989 it was sold for scrap to Azcon Corp., never assigned a UP road number.
