Men At Work

The Conductor and Brakeman of the Bellingham Yard Switcher heading to manually throw the switch from the Plywood Plant Spur to the track going to the left in the picture and protect the unguarded crossing so the Switcher can shove its caboose across Roeder Av,uncouple and leave the Caboose clear of the roadway, then pull ahead. After clearing the road, the crew will set the switch to the spur .Then, the switcher will shove into the spur
and leave the two empty boxcars just inside the switch. Then the switcher and crew do everything in reverse, pick up their caboose and go home to the Bellingham Yard.(The plywood plant has a trackmobile which is used to position the boxcars at their loading platform)
For BN to be using this caboose must mean they are productive at one point. Though I have seen hundreds in museums, made into homes or simply left to rot the caboose will always have a role. I do hope in the future they are brought into the light again and prosper. Should the FRA make them mandated that is a positive part of the caboose history

This photo is fantastic. It really adds the human element of railroading as well as an element of railroad history. Well done!
