Georgetown Loop Railroad

The Georgetown Loop Railroad is a narrow gauge line which runs between Georgetown, Colorado (USA) and the town of Silver Plume, high on the mountain to the west of Georgetown. This former mining (and now tourist) railroad runs a Shay engine and even stops at an old silver mine which can be toured by passengers on the way.

This is a close-up shot of Shay engine #14, which pulled us up the mountain to Silver Plume, an elevation change of 600 feet but only 2 miles away as the crow flies.

The photo was taken in August of 2002.
