If those Geeps are still good, then why did CN sell them?
 
That's just how class 1 railroads are. Once they've ordered enough new units to handle the traffic, then they start getting rid of the oldest power on their roster. Many shortlines & regionals can't afford buying brand new power, so they have to get them second hand from class 1 railroads that don't need some of their stored power so they sell it, instead of just letting them sit around
