CNJ 3679 leads commuter train at Elizabeth, NJ

CNJ 3679 leads a short commuter train at Elizabeth, NJ on a May, 1974 day.
Was it common to have an RS3 along? It would appear to me that a GP40 would have had no problem with a train of this length! Thanks for putting it up.

I wish I could answer that, but at the time of this picture I was 16, and did not really note the addition of the RS nor know that it was unusual... ahh to be able to go back and reshoot this stuff!!! :)
