CB&Q O-1a #4960, Naperville, IL, August 7, 1961, photo by Chuck Zeiler

Chicago Burlington & Quincy O-1a #4960, Naperville, Illinois, August 7, 1961, photo by Chuck Zeiler. This is a black and white negative, but I scanned in on the wrong setting, the result was a sepia tone scan. I thought about desaturating the photo, but I kind of like the tone, so I left it alone.

This locomotive was one of two retained by the CB&Q for excursion service in the 1960's. When CB&Q ended the excursions in 1966, 4960 was retired to the Circus World Museum where she remained until donated to the Mid-Continent Railway Historical Society's museum at North Freedom, Wis. In 1980, she was leased to an excursion operator, the Bristol & North Western (B&NW) Railroad, in Bristol, VA. A short-lived reprieve, she entered service running out of Benham, Va., during the summer of 1981. The locomotive was then stored in Indiana for a bit, and finally traveled to the Grand Canyon Railway, where it is today.
