Yard Limit

The Amtrak Southwest Chief, train number 4, leaves the Dalies-Isleta connector and joins the NMRX Albuquerque Subdivision. The Dalies-Isleta connector is a 14.8-mile single track main line operated by BNSF that extends from Dalies to Isleta. The connector is part of the Glorieta Subdivision in BNSF timetables, although there is no scheduled freight traffic on the line. The only scheduled service on this line is Amtrak’s Southwest Chief, which operates one train per direction daily. The Dalies-Isleta connector is controlled using CTC technology. It is Class 5 track but is not ATS-equipped, so the maximum speed for the Southwest Chief is 79 mph.
Note Heritage unit 145 also seen in our previous video. Phase III - Amtrak P42DC #145 debuted 1/30/11, the 1st engine released in the special scheme which is in a special version of Phase III. This version is very similar to the original Phase III scheme used on the EMD F40PHs.

This livery is not quite the same as the original Phase III that appeared on the GE Genesis, which consisted of the three stripes angling up from the center in front and becoming a straight line back to the rear of the engines. The striping is much lower on the engine than on the previous Phase III striping on P42s. The top of the engine is black with the black field angling down to cover the windows on the cab the whole front surface of the locomotive, with the exception of the striping. Amtrak elected to use the older logo typeface seen on Phase III equipment, positioning the bold "Amtrak" wordmark above the stripes and flanked with the year Amtrak was founded (1971) and the year of their 40th anniversary (2011) in a smaller,
serifed typeface.
