Hi,

To the previous part of the series:
Regional Rail Express - 50: Rába II/Venezia III (50 p.)

The video for this part:

August 20 2004

I returned from my Slovenian diesel tour (see "Citadella" reports) by EuroNight 241 "Venezia" Venice – Budapest where eight hours were spent alone in a daytime compartment from Ljubljana. We arrived to Csorna over-punctually at 9:25 a.m. Original M62 210 was uncoupled immediately, I only managed to take this quick photo.

1047 (nowadays 470) 004 took over for the rest of the journey to Budapest-Keleti.
heck5102.jpg

Having relaxed a little during the night after strenuous days, I walked along the diesel line towards Szombathely. Original M41 2208 appeared at 9:49 a.m. hauling InterCity 917 "Répce" Szombathely - Budapest.
heck5104.jpg

Refurbished M62 302 departed right away with mixed freight.
heck5103.jpg

I waited another hour for the return trip of M62 210.
heck5105.jpg

I traveled home afterwards.

January 28 2015

Rumors about the end of diesel operations (eventually in September 2015) prompted a visit to the line in winter. The best connection from Vienna to Csorna at noon via Hegyeshalom: Railjet 61 Munich - Budapest changing engineers to the right, GySEV Sz 39844 Hegyeshalom - Csorna to the right.

This line also was being renewed. This nice construction train with heritage A25 016 (an industrial and private railroad version of the M44, Ganz-MÁVAG #503 / built in 1961) could be encountered at Bősárkány. In the meantime, the whole Szombathely - Hegyeshalom railroad has been electrified.

After arrival to Csorna.

Modern GySEV.
heck5112.jpg

IC 923 "Borostyánkő" arrived from Szombathely at 5:50 p.m.
heck5113.jpg

Interesting further use of the train destination plate.
heck5114.jpg

Refurbished 418 320 (M41 2320) was uncoupled right away, engine changes worked well rehearsed at Csorna.
heck5115.jpg

July 2 2015

IC 913 "Isis" Szombathely - Budapest arriving behind Ludmilla 651 008 one week later.

January 28 2015

Changing engines of IC 915 "Répce" in winter.
heck5118.jpg

MÁV cars from Szombathely were joined by IC 935 "Sopron Bank" consisting of electric engine and GySEV cars from Sopron, leaving jointly as IC 915 "Répce - Sopron Bank" to Budapest-Keleti terminal five minutes later.
Since electrification, the InterCity schedule has been changed to an hourly tact Budapest - Csorna, continuing alternating every two hours to Sopron or Szombathely.

July 2 2015

The same scene as the previous image in summer. Kárpát Vasút 459 022 (GM-NOHAB, ex Danish DSB MY 1156, built in 1965) had just been purchased from Scandinavia and was wearing a newer DSB livery. Later, it was repainted as a classic MÁV NOHAB.

IC 924 "Alpokalja" Budapest - Szombathely departing in sunlight.
heck5121.jpg

The same train a week earlier on June 24 2015 with M41 2118 in front of an ex-ÖBB car.
heck5122.jpg

July 2 2015

Sz 9926 Győr - Sopron consisted of classic ex-ÖBB Schlieren cars.
heck5123.jpg

And S 9906 Győr - Sopron with through cars from Budapest as ultimate MÁV/GySEV second hand local train mix of ex-DB Halberstädters and ex-ÖBB Schlieren.
heck5124.jpg

I walked to the renewed station exit curve for IC 923 "Borostyánkő".
heck5125.jpg

heck5127.jpg

Scene with a Cold War era pillbox... IC "Rába" was supposed to depart soon, but it was at least two hours delayed. I did not even see it going home via Győr. Oh well, more about it next time... :0)

October 22 2011

At the lesser visited eastern station end of Csorna on a fall excursion.
heck5129.jpg

We continued towards Sopron, meeting an IC at Petöhaza.

Back to the more popular western station limit of Csorna on January 28 2015.

April 29 2004

My first visit to Csorna took place in the evening, two days before Hungary joined the EU. Back then, ICs via Sopron continued to Wiener Neustadt in Lower Austria (see report part Regional Rail Express - 6: Zagreb II (50 p.)).
IC 936 "Lővér" (Budapest-Keleti -) Csorna - Wiener Neustadt departed slightly delayed at 6:19 p.m.
heck5132.jpg

Soon, smoking M62 213 approached with a generator car.
heck5133.jpg

heck5134.jpg

heck5135.jpg

Five minutes later, the spectacular departure of IC 916 "Répce" Budapest - Szombathely.
heck5136.jpg

heck5137.jpg

A short visit to the collection of vehicles at the station.
heck5138.jpg

M62 302 arrived with freight from Szombathely at 6:46 p.m.
heck5139.jpg

M62 301 followed ten minutes later with IC 911 "AXA" Szombathely - Budapest.
heck5140.jpg

EN 240 "Venezia" arrived fifteen minutes late from Budapest.
heck5141.jpg

heck5142.jpg

First, something came from Sopron...
heck5143.jpg

... then the journey to Venice continued at 7:20 p.m., ten minutes delayed.

The same fountain in 2015 to the left. Subsequently, I enjoyed the sunset on the way to Győr in 2004.
