Here are some recent images from my old back yard in Northern California. All images were take for the UP's Roseville sub aka donner pass.

1. The reno fun train passes through Bloomers cut in Auburn,Ca.

2. A westbound intermodal passes through Emigrant gap at a location known as Steins hill.

3. A short intermodal out of Lathrop climbs grade near Crystal Lake after sunrise.

4. Spreaders wait for a real snow storm in Truckee under a beautiful sunset.

Thanks for looking.

That photo of the Reno Fun Train brings back fond memories. I lived in Sacramento from 1973-84 and took slides of the Fun Train in the mid 70's. It was pulled by an AABBAA set of SP bloody nose F units (FP7's?) and the passenger cars were SP streamlined cars including a three unit articulated diner. We would meet the eastbound train at the station in Sacramento. The Bay Area passengers were already looped and middle-aged women would get off and hug us 20 something guys during the brief station stop.

I need to buy a slide scanner and start posting up my old shots of Sacramento railroads from that time period. is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to - An online railroad bookstore featuring a curated selection of new and used railroad books.
