PORT CLINTON, Pa. – One of America’s best-known steam locomotives is on the verge of a comeback. Reading Company 4-8-4 2102 has been undergoing a thorough rebuild for the past four years in the Reading & Northern’s shops in Port Clinton, Pa.

Reading Company 2102 passed its hydro test earlier this year and crews are working five days a week to get the locomotive back under steam.

She's the first big steam I ever rode behind and the first big steam I ever worked on. Spent several years helping the rebuild in the early 1970's, gained experience that helped me in many other steam endeavors. I'm sure I would have done it one way or another, but due to this loco and a supportive friend, I got an early start in steam.
