23 degrees today with mostly local inaction with the OPPD coal locos at North Omaha and the UP local engines resting at Seward St. But the CN train was proceeding north at a blistering 10MPH heading for Denison and beyond. The old RR grade is on the north side of Carter Lake and has been unaltered, except for a few trash dumps now and again, for at least 30 years.
Christmas Eve Day dawned foggy. I love fog, so went and took some pictures. First east of Fremont is a train getting a new crew. The 8207 will head east and turn north at California Jct. While driving around I chased the 7470 to North Bend NE. Fog cleared a bit about 1/2 mile east of North Bend. When the 7470 had passed I headed back to Fremont and the 8207 had gotten the signal to go. So I went to Arlington. The scene on the Elkhorn River bridge will probably be gone next year as they are building a new bridge in a different place to ease the curvature of the line and double track it someday.
Here is the 7470 at North Bend and the NS unit that was tagging along and the BNSF local engines in Fremont NE.
Only caught one train today while having lunch at Oreapolis NE today.

Great shot Ed. I always like those with the heat distortion above the locomotives. And a matched pair of locos. Bonus.
North of Fremont today,1/28/2022 is the BNSF 5758 hauling tank cars northbound. A local railfan called these engines that could count. 57, 58.
Council Bluffs IA today, wb coal loads and intermodal on the 12th St line.

One from last week. A UP train westbound just east of Kennard. And west of California Jct, across a small trestle.
Searching for something else in my files, I came upon this shot of UP3300. Taken in UP's Council Bluffs yard in 2002.

55+ years ago my brother and I would visit my grandparents farm just north of West Chicago IL. I was in the area for a family memorial get together. I stopped by "the farm". Surrounded by industry and houses it is strange that the 40 acres looks the same except for lack of buildings. On the west side was the tracks of the EJ&E and CNW and on the north the CGW. That's me standing near where the train(funits) is in the B&W pic. And a UPY 643 at Hawthorne Lane where I took the picture of the EJ&E center cab. The CGW tracks are part of the CN and serve industries by diverging off the main to the east up the old EJ&E transfer to the Ingalton yard of the CGW. The road between the crossing signal and the no parking sign was the 3/4 mile long road to the farmhouse.
It's been long hot summer this year. Still 91 and it's 8pm. But trains keep going. Some catch up pictures from last month. Omaha NE, Fremont NE, Hastings Iowa
A late Amtrak 6 with 184 in charge crossing the Papio Creek just east of Ralston NE on 8-27-2022 about 10:15am.
Nicely done Tom. Did you have a long wait?
Didn't have to wait long. By the time I gathered all the stuff to take the picture, figure how to get the bicycle secured in the car with out the bike rack, then park the car and bike to location, all the time hoping the Amtrak tracker was correct.
Long Intermodal on the UP yesterday. They stopped to set out some cars in Valley NE. Headend was in the next town east (Waterloo). Conductor was about 4 miles from the headend. They lost communication for a bit and the MTO had to come from Fremont to help. They ran out of time after they stopped at Elkhorn. Just enough room between Waterloo and Elkhorn to clear the Waterloo crossings. The 7478 was on the intermodal with 2 mid train DPU. The 5779 was on a Manifest that passed the stopped 7478 at Elkhorn NE.
#2. I really like the lighting. Elkhorn always was a hit and miss place for me.
Amtrak at Gretna NE this morning 9/3/2022. 169,184, 309. Missed getting all 3 in shot by just a split second. Oh Well!
well, it’s still a nice photo. I can’t say I‘ve ever seen 3 different Amtrak schemes at one time.
