Old Railroad Symbol?

Hey guys,
new to the forum.
my home place is right next to an old railroad that was abandoned in the early 1970s. Watched the final steam engine run down the track in 73.
The railroad was Southwest Pennsylvania Railroad.
my question is I have this old steel pole with an arrow on top standing on the other side of my driveway. Was wondering what it means? Is it the edge of their right of way?

I kind of remember through the fog of time, that was a very old-style marker for a natural gas pipeline.
