Proud Earthling
Hi,
To the previous part of the series:
Nostalgic May 9: Severn Railway Diesel Gala I (50 p. + 1 v.)
The video for this part:
May 18 2023
I arrived at Arley station shortly before 3 p.m. - 47712 "Lady Diana Spencer" in Scotrail colours was shunting its DBSO set.
37263 approached from Kidderminster.
47712 had left, 50035 returned from Bridgnorth.
You can publicly reach some photo spots at the northern end of the platform.
For class 37 acceleration sound see video at minute 7:13.
HSTs - common on mainlines until recently - are now part of the heritage railway scene:
43188 "Newport Castle" in current GWR livery arriving from Kidderminster at 3:32.
Power car 43186 "Taunton Castle" next to 50035.
See video at minute 8:24 for the class 50 departure.
The HST changed tracks at 3:44 - I overheard some of the railwaymen complaining about the dense schedule.
Not planned, but nice reminiscence: Boarding the HST.
I had returned to Bewdley at 4:24. Quite a strange feeling to ride a high speed unit on heritage rails.
D821 "Greyhound" approaching from Bridgnorth at 4:58 p.m.
An almost impeccably historic scenery at Bewdley. A few persons have been removed virtually.
Viewed from the footbridge.
Wide angle perspective of the "Warship" class 42.
I went shopping and took a picture out of my room window (see previous report part), then returned for the evening session to the station at 7:48 - and it paid off, the sun came out again!
The class 50 had changed to the rear of the DBSO set.
D1062 "Western Courier" rolled into the station from Kidderminster at 7:52 p.m.
Stabled class 108 DMUs - one displaying the terminal of the Cambrian Coast Railway, Pwllheli.
Departure with coronation ornaments.
33108 showed up from Bridgnorth at 7:57.
D1062 accelerated towards the evening sun exactly at eight o'clock.
Ready to pick up the token.
GWR 7325 - a class 4300 - remains as a static display:
Behind it operational class 5700 Pannier tank engine 7714:
Cast iron toilet from Glasgow.
In stronger winds, I awaited the arrival of 40106 at 8:32.
May 19 2023
Friday was another transfer day, the weather forecast not ideal. Not keen on taking the local bus, I walked to the station after breakfast at 9 a.m.
Interesting vehicles - some you may prefer to keep out of your train...
Several photographers and the basher community were waiting for this: Rail Adventure HST power cars 43465 and 43484 in front of the DBSO set. The latter already had made it onto the content to Munich.
HST units with buffer had been in service with Grand Central and were modernized in 2010 at Brush Traction in Loughborough with MTU prime movers, designated class 43/4.
In 2009, I had still captured some with Paxman Valenta engines on video:
Class 20 20189 and 20142 approached to couple to the first service of the day to Kidderminster on track 3.
Entering Kidderminster station you pass by some recently added heritage vehicles.
GWR HST next to Network Rail 73951 and 73952 in sunshine.
Next time, we will travel to Hampshire...
