It is interesting to compare the Bay Area trains with those of the Puget Sound Region. Our coaches up here look as though they were specifically made for commuter service where yours appear to be regular Superliner cars with one modified to be a control car.

I don't know much about when/how/why our "California Cars" were ordered, but I know that they follow the same dimensions as the Superliners with the exception of minor details like two double entrance doors and some of the stainless steel fluting on the sides.
