McLeod River Rail Bridge is a free online Railroad Discussion Forum and Railroad Photo Gallery for railroaders, railfans, model railroaders and anyone else who is interested in railroads. We cover a wide variety of topics, including freight trains, passenger and commuter railroads, rail news and information, tourist railroads, railway museums and railroad history.

This is the rail bridge crossing the McLeod River, within town limits of Whitecourt, Alberta. Cross this bridge, and you are on your way west to the industrial oilfield installations outside of Fox Creek. As far as I know, that is the end of the tracks.

When I took these photographs on February 28, 2020, I was waiting...waiting...waiting for a train to cross, with no luck. So these are initial photos of the bridge from a cold, unlucky day. I intend to try again on a warm Sunday, as that's the day trains seem to really move in our small town.

Today, I captured an October photo of a pair of SD40's (5242+5343) entering onto the bridge:

I've failed this summer to capture a full freight coming off the bridge, on a bright morning. Such a freight in this area would likely be made up of two-bay hoppers or center-beam flats, or tankers and boxcars. That's the photo I want; just never on location at the right time. is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to - An online railroad bookstore featuring a curated selection of new and used railroad books.
