I am writing an urban fantasy novel and my opening scene involves a diesel locomotive, it's engineer and the freight conductor. The train pulls into a depot and there is some description of what's going on with the crew and the locomotive itself, including some action later involving the train's human cargo and one of the boxcars.

I was hoping to:

1) get some insights here as to what goes on when a locomotive is first throttled down to idle, then turned off,
2) get someone or sometwo to read what I've written to check it for technical accuracy, and perhaps make suggestions as to details I could add that might deepen the visual impact of the scene itself.

I can't post the content here due to copyright issues, so I've created a FB group where we can discuss it privately. If anyone here can help, I'd sure appreciate any advice! The group is called "Broken Ground Series technical advisors group" or if you want to email me I can add you. BrokenGroundSeries at gmail.com.

Thank you in advance,

Shannon Davidson
