Hello,
I am new to this forum and this is likely a strange title to a post, but it is true. I have an interesting piece of real estate that I would like to sell/preserve. I am a 7th generation Montanan and history means something to me. Is there anyone out there in the railroad cosmos that would be interested in 3 acres in Montana with a lot of history attached? On the land there is an old, pretty broken down house that was originally built as a schoolhouse for the local mining community in 1880. Its 144 years old. It sits in the shadow of the historic Corbin railroad trestle. The steel trestle was built in the early 1900s to replace the original wooden trestle that was failing. Currently, the trestle and railroad right-of-way is owned by Jefferson County so that it can be preserved. The tracks were removed in the 1980s. I want to sell the property, but don't want to destroy the history found in the old house. There were a number of additions put on the original schoolhouse over the years, but it has fallen into disrepair. The roof seems to have failed over the additions, but the roof over the original schoolhouse appears intact. I would like to move the real estate, but don't really want someone to come in and doze the old schoolhouse. At a minimum, I would like to see the original sawn logs used to create something new.
Is there "someone special" out there who would want a cool project like this?
Below are some historical pictures and some current ones.
Oh, here is a link to some cool 1950's footage I found of the train going across the trestle (from inside the train)!
You can see the trestle from about 0:47 to 1:30.
Here are the photos. I think you can see the original schoolhouse in one of these. The stone building just on the other side of the trestle was the second schoolhouse but it was torn down years ago.
Can you find the deer in the photo below?
The tall portion of the building is the original schoolhouse.
Thanks for any advice!
Ryan
