Our Maybach engine consultant Rob Fern came from the UK to work on the locomotive and we arranged its first public trip out on the Niles Canyon Railway, with Rob at the throttle. Power is being supplied by our SD9 SP 5472 but all control originated from the 9010 via the MU connections. This gave us an opportunity to test the recently rebuilt air brake system and rewired MU under real world conditions. Plus, the run was just plain fun. The 9010 is the only locomotive of its type in the world and has been under restoration since 2008. There is much left to do but this test run made all the previous hard work worth while. Visit the locomotive's web site at http://sp9010.ncry.org for continuing updates on our progress.
