Friday, August 22nd, Carstan's Publications, home to Railfan and Railroad Magazine and a host of other hobby publications has pulled the plug. Citing "the current economic condition"...

Subscribers will be pleased to know existing sub-
scriptions are to be honored and fulfilled by the new
ownership. Fulfillment will be based on the number
of remaining issues in existing subscriptions. Due to
the need to get the magazines’ cover dates current, a
combined issue scenario will likely be employed, but
the number of issues owed to each subscriber will be
adjusted accordingly. “If you have six issues left on
your subscription, you will receive six issues,” EuDaly
said. "

It's very difficult for printed media to compete with electronic media in this day and age, I suspect this is one of the reasons why Carstens pulled the plug. Still it is nice to be able to read a good 'ol magazine, especially when you're miles away from internet service and a computer isn't available.
