On most Sundays, a local freight leaves Albuquerque, NM and makes a stop at the General Mills plant on the north end of town. After exchanging a few hopper cars, the train takes tanks cars of asphalt to Rosario, NM and then returns several hours later with empties. This train is affectionately referred to as the Lamy Local,
BNSF 2844 is an old classic GP-39-2, built in 1975 and is one of several old locomotives doing local freight work around Albuquerque.
Listening to the scanner, I heard that it was coming back from Rosario so I went to the downtown Railrunner station in Bernalillo, NM and caught it.
Knowing that Amtrak 4, the eastbound Southwest Chief would be along right after 2844 cleared CP Hahn, I caught it up the road at the Sandoval 550 Railrunner station in Bernalillo.
