With BNSF 7547(a new ES44DC)on the point,an eastbound "Z" tops the crest of Stevens Pass at the East Portal of the Cascade Tunnel,and starts downhill for a crew change at Wenatchee.
A westbound stack train glides down grade where it crosses Sunset Falls on its way over the Cascade mountains. Just another example of why BNSF calls this the Scenic Sub.

An eastbound autorack train is climbing the 2.2% grade east of Skykomish and is crossing the Foss River Bridge. This photo was taken in a fearce snow storm on 1/24/04
BNSF 4015 is eastbound just outside of Sultan, Wa.. Soon the train will be pulling into Goldbar then up on to Skykomish and Stevens Pass. Shot taken 01.17.04.
When we left Seattle, I told the wife route 2 was scenic...little did she know. I followed this eastbound intermodel up along route 2, and got him at a grade crossing. Photo was taken early Sept. while on vacation.
BNSF Westbound stopped on the 2.2% grade at Berne in Stevens Pass Washington waiting for a meet with an eastbound. Notice the sand deposits on the sideing track. This is an indication of the difficulty starting heavy trains on mountain grades.
