Hi All,
I am from the UK and am really interested in the heavy haul freight in the US and Canada. I'm trying to find out more and more about this fascinating area. One thing I think I have noticed is that in North America there are very few (perhaps none) bumping posts (what we call 'buffer...
My boyfriend recently got a job with CN and I'm curious about the time off policy..
I know he gets some rest after each yard and road shift. How long are road shifts?
Are EDOs the same as vacation days? Or are they different?
Is it possible for him to know he will have two days off in a...
well after tearing down my layout and unfortunately my grandfathers layout too, moving and getting the new house jobs done including finishing the previously unfinished basement I have now after one year in my new house started the layout. Old layout was 11x11 aprox and the new space is...
Hi,
My partner has started conductor training for CP in Ontario last week. He has his first test this week and needs 100% to pass. He has been told about 80% fail and can re-sit once but if they fail again they are out ? Is the 80% fail rate correct ? How easy are the first tests please ? Could...
It's spring in Calgary - That means brown grass, a few green shoots, and snowfall as unpredictable as a wounded boar.
Here's 672, an eastbound potash train, coming into Calgary with the rocky mountains in the background.

Most people don't enjoy the smell of cement in the morning - neither do I, but it sure looks great!
An elderly GE 50T switches cars around the plant as the first light breaks in. You know you're a railfan if you can spot half a dozen PS-2 hoppers in the background (above the switch). That's...

Once upon a time Floral was your typical Prairie town. Today the elevator is gone, people are nowhere to be seen and its no longer present on many maps
On the bright side its home to LaFarge Cement, who have their own GE 50T switcher! The plant is switched by CP, being only a couple miles from...

Lately both CN & CP have been taking the 'WX' out of the government owned hopper fleet, i.e. CPWX simply becomes CP as the patch on this hopper clearly shows. Of the 30 on this train I'd say about 1/4 were patched.
Note the scorthed Earth in the foreground - result of grass fires.
