This old Santa Fe boxcar came through Bend on a Northbound manifest today. Amazing to see a car still retaining its ATSF reporting marks in 2010, and in revenue service. Too bad the graffiti covered up the build date.
Before DPU came through, CN intorduced this fun boxcar. CP uses ex-BN 40's for the same purpose in Northern Ontario with SOO #'s. Generally these are put on the trail-end of a long train, at least 9000ft me thinks.

One can only guess how old this boxcar really is. The original paint dates prior to script, so 1940's? Hard to believe it's still roadworthy in 2008, even if it is used as a rolling shed.
