What a difference 65 years makes

CSXT 444 follows the same curve at Sproul WV as thousands of other CSX, Chessie System and Chesapeake and Ohio locomotives have. Moving coal from the mines along Coal River has been this railraod's job for over 100 years. C&OHS photo of C&O K4 used with permission.
Comparison shots like this have always been interesting to me. Amazing how much changes at a location over 10,20, or 65 years! Nice work!

I went back and forth for about five minutes. Very nice!!

Thanks for the kind words.
Sproul Junction is 15 miles up the Coal River from St. Albans and the C&O, now CSX, main line. The river forks into the Big and Little Coal Rivers. In the days of steam it was a pretty busy place, complete with a depot, yard tracks, turntable, water tank and coal dock. Now even the foundations are hard to find. The only thing in the 2004 photo left from the '49 photo is the phone box, the signal and a few power poles. Even the tunnel and bridge have been replaced. The wood lined tunnel burned in 1990 and was replaced with a concrete tunnel and the bridge was replaced a few years later. Needless to say, trains do not stop here anymore.
