South Bound UP freight At Fields Oregon
P
Austin (and your dad too),

I've been going to Waldo lake for many years and this is the first time I decided to do some exploring when we saw the "fields" sign on the Highway. My wife and I were *very* surprised to come across the tracks up there. I came right home and started doing some internet searches. (right home being back to Portland, having left that same morning to see my brother and sister-in-law at
Waldo). Sorry to say we just missed you and your family by a couple days. I would have enjoyed meeting you guys and learning more about the rails up there.

I knew from some limited knowledge that the tracks did several switches, but the "triangle" yard threw me until I got home tonight and saw it on a topographical map online... it's just a siding area for, I guess, work rigs, etc.

As for Rob: Your comments about taking the wife up there for the first time echoed my wife's comments that it would be a very quiet place to camp. We actually had to put the Blazer into 4x4 mode to get out of your "campsite" (it had just rained and was about 2 inches of muck :)

Nice to know what it is all about, great pics from both of you guys. Keep up the great work. I can't wait to take my 16 month old son up there in a year or so and wait for a train!
