Unique Lashup

Quite a variety on this set at Binghamton, NY. The Grey Ghost U23B was a one of a kind.
Ah, that's how I remember the D&H... Both the GE's had that wonderful (sarcastism in high mode) 16 notch throttle... The Gray Ghost had so many railfan stories behind it, "Colonie ran out of blue paint, experimental paint scheme, etc" The "club foot" (slippery as hell, but good unit) RS-3u in the bicentennial paint (I think that unit is alive and well still on some tourist line), but the REAL workhorse of this power set is the C-420 #410 on the other end... Man, what memories~!!!

Unfortunately, this was a real bad era for the rail worker... Guilford's policies were in full swing during this time... Bad tracks, unmaintained equipment, safety issues, scabs, and killing the union...

GREAT Photo!!! Got more?
Wow, Greg... I had no idea you ventured into D&H territory in the mi-80s. Got any more? This is the time period I'm trying to model... I was 3 in 1986, lol. MEC 290 started life as D&H 311, was renumbered 2311 and got the "Grey Ghost" scheme it wore until the end of it's D&H career. Supposedly the reason it got painted that way had to do with the "blue dip" paint scheme....and they had lots of leftover Grey paint they wanted to use up....but you probably knew that ;)
