"The Schnabel Train"

CP Rail #3094 Hauled the Heaviest and Widest Load ever handled by CP Rail (1987). The Massive Refinery Vessel, was Clutched in the Grip of a Special Car ( the Schnabel Car ) the length of a football field. Coupler to coupler, it's just a shade under 91 meters long, making it the World's Largest Capacity Rail Car. The 36 Axle Giant, which at 335 Tonnes, Weighs nearly as much as Two Mainline Locomotives, and is the only one of its kind in North America. This Vessel was unloaded in Duluth, Minnesota and hauled by Burlington Northern to Emerson, Manitoba where CP Rail took the load the rest of the way to Regina, Saskatchewan. Movement of this Famous Train was Restricted to Daylight Hours with a Speed Restriction of 24-km/h. In many locations, items such as Switch Stands and Signal Lights temporarily had to be moved out of the way. In all Five Trips were made. Notice the Patrol Car at the end of the train which is featured in a different photo of mine. This Photo was taken in February of 1987.
