Stevens Snow Fence

An eastbound "Z" rolls past and under the slide fence located between Skykomish and Scenic on the rugged south flank of Tonga Ridge.
It seems like that fence would do a lot better job of stopping falling rocks than stopping snowslides. But anyway, what are the platforms on top of the poles for -- especially so close together? Just curious.

CB

Those platforms are for both support and maintenance of the wires overhead. It is hard to tell from the photo, but the wires both go up the face of the rocks and out over the tracks.
