RG 318 Derailed On Crossing

A picture of RG 318 Derailed on a crossing just outside of Lincoln Nebraska. They were taking the siding to let trains pass when it derailed due to ice in the clearance channel.
I run a ballast regulator and I've done that many times....flangeways get full of ice and i ride up and over the rail.....except I just put the regulator in reverse and ride back onto the rail....

Yeah we use that trick too, but in this case it did not work. If you notice, thr road was gravel so the rail was a bit higher than the road surface. When it derailed, the outside wheel popped over the rail and then compressed the gravel, even though it was frozen. It took a bit of work to get back up, and onto the rail again. Fun stuff when it is 20 below and blowing 20!
