East Side Wall of SP Bayshore Roundhouse

This is the graffiti'ed east wall of the 16-stall Southern Pacific Bayshore Roundhouse. It was built around 1912 and closed in 1985. In 2001 a fire destroyed half of its roof. It sits abandoned in the empty land that was once the SP Bayshore Rail Yard on the southern end of San Francisco. It once boasted steam, diesel, freight and passenger car shops. Now all that remains is the abandoned roundhouse and the tender shop. There is serious talk of converting the roundhouse to a railroad museum with a track extension for "visiting trains." We can only hope!
