Today the CPR has over 1,700 diesel road units. They all own their existance to this relic, CP 8000 Baldwin DRS4-4-1000 build in 1948, CP's first road diesel.
It's lickely the only remaining piece of rolling stock wearing the lovely 'pink & yellow stripe' paint scheme. The ALCO switchers purchased earlier were black, both were quickly repainted into the familiar 'Tuscan Red & Grey', still worn by CPR's Heritage fleet today.
I'd love to see a Heritage unit in these colors. CP used to roster dozens of pink SD40-2s (faded action red), most now retired.
